changing tastes

It’s been a few years in the making now, but I’m deciding more and more that I just don’t like nature photography. I think I’m good at it, but it’s just not too much fun. All summer long I load up with long lenses, macro extension tubes, brackets, and flashes and go out to shoot. It’s fun, and sometimes successful … but not as fullfilling as I’d like it to be. So now what? Good question, I don’t know.
… I’ll have to give it some more thought.

gettin’ bored
Now that I’ve decided to follow thru, or at least try to follow thru, with the Odd Days Project … I’m anxious to get started. I’ve been getting a little bored lately. I play chess online a lot and pro and I have started playing a bunch of backgammon, which is great (ps … we need a bigger set), but too many days go by which seem to have failed to be meaningful at all. Hopefully taking a photo of a single cool thing, or fleeting interesting moment will help me get thru the winter. Having at least a single photo to show for my day will be satisfying … at least, I hope it will. I gotta blow the dust off my camera gear … it’s been a long time.

potential new photo a day project
I’m kicking around the idea of another photo a day project for 2009. It’s a difficult project, but the collection of photos at the end is worth it … I think. I’m thinking I may shorten it for myself, however, by half. So kind of like a photo every other day. I’d give myself 2 days to take a photo rather than force myself to take one every day.
In 2005, I took a picture a day for almost all 365 days … close enough to call the project a success anyway. Doing it again would be a good way to track Abi’s growth. Also, it helps me remember all the fun stuff I did when I reflect back.
My problem at the moment is deciding how to display the images. My options are as follows:
- Use this website – problem with that is the project gets mixed in with other posts and may be forgotten.
- Create another website – problem is no one would go to it.
- Flickr – I like Flickr and the images would get more exposure, but I’m not sure I want to start putting images somewhere else on the web besides where I’m already putting them.
- Facebook – This would give my friends the most exposure, but facebook destroys image quality and so isn’t really an option (not to mention the 600 pixel size limit)
I’m not sure what to do. None of the options are very good.
