Running vs. Biking
I came across an interesting article which I’d thought I’d share … click here. And a brief summary of the article is contained in this quote:
Running will give you a more intense workout in less time. However, a person would need to be at a reasonable fitness level to run 4.8 miles without causing themselves distress. Whereas, it would be easier to ride 20 miles on a bicycle, at 10 mph, to burn the same amount of calories. There would also be far less stress on the body’s joints.
I’m glad I’ve finally started to follow thru with my desire to run a 5K, but I’ve always loved biking and will probably switch over once my race is finished. Obviously, if I fall in love with running between now and then, perhaps I’ll scrap the bike idea … we’ll see. We’ve already bought a trailer to pull Abi behind a bike and pro and I both have bikes, so biking could be a little more of a family event perhaps (although, pro and I are at different levels, so riding together would mean a slower pace for a longer time so pro could keep up and I’d still get the same calorie burn).

what?!!! I can so bike longer and harder than you! …you just pull Abi and we’ll be even…
been drinkin’ today again?
I was inspired by your 5k running effort, and I’ve been thinking about the idea of getting into running myself, but I have not been doing a good job motivating. Last night for the first time since high school (maybe 1st semester college), I went running for the ‘fun’ of it. I did 1.3 miles in 25 minutes. Not breaking any land speed records, but better then I had expected, and the best part is, I can still walk today
Maybe I’ll end up joining you in the 5k after all…. we’ll just have to see if I can stick to it.
forgive me, but I know four or five Amy’s … which one is this?
