Training … Day One
I’ve recently been made aware that a few of my friends are runners now …. I had no idea. Good for them, fuel for me. I’ve wanted to run in a 5K race for some time now, but getting into shape has been a bit of a hurdle. But if they can do it, I can do it. 5K isn’t so far (3.1 miles-ish).
So last night I jogged around the block once. …Oh boy, was that fun (shaking my head no). It was only 0.6 of a mile (almost exactly 1 kilometer), and I was able to keep a pace of about 6.5 miles per hour … but I was dead tired and struggling almost immediately … great
My goal is to finish a 5K without having to walk, in less than 30minutes – by the end of the summer-ish. I’ll keep you posted.

It’s rough but keep at it – I promise it gets easier!. You’ll be so impressed with how much further you’ll be able to go after a few weeks! You can totally do it!
I agree with Beth. Just be careful not to push yourself too hard at the beginning or you’ll get discouraged. a couple that I kayak with decided to start running. They started out just walking a short distance with a little bit of running and they could not go far at all. Now he is running 10 miles at time and she is doing 3 to 5 I think.
If you are running on the pavement, be sure to get good shoes.
I wear running shoes anyway, and have pretty expensive taste, so I think I’m cool in the “good shoes” department. Other than that, motivation is going to be the key factor. Mario Kart for the Wii is easier and I’m better at it
Milo! It does get easier. I find that if I start the first few minutes out a bit slower then I can run farther. You will be running three miles in no time! Congrats!!!
It’s so fun!
Don’t listen to all of them. It’s hard! There are so many other things to be doing!
I’m going to get shot. I’m leaving.
p.s. I did love it for the week that I made myself run…even if I did die a lot.
