coyote, er … maybe a fox

Published by milo under Uncategorized

Jessamyn and I were in the pine bush yesterday taking pictures of hummingbird moths and butterflies. I was walking down the path and happen to catch a glimpse of a bushy red tail darting away from me … it was very cool, but I’m not sure what it was. I figured it was a fox, but the big billboard at the entrance to the pine bush doesn’t show foxes living there, but it did show eastern coyotes – who’s tail is bushy and could be red. So now I think it was a coyote. I hope to see it again, I go there alot.

feedin’ the birds

Published by milo under general

If you know me, you know I love animals … I’m fascinated by them – they bring me joy … I don’t know why. Anyway, once we moved into our new house, I was eager to start feeding the birds, but I must admit I didn’t think about it enough and now I hate all the feeding equipment that I bought. Thankfully, none of it cost too much, so who cares – time to start over.

First up, the hummingbird feeder: The one I bought is hard to clean, attracts ants and bees and has no perch for the birds, so I’ll be replacing it with this little beauty – (click me). It’s got a perch, and ant moat, and no yellow parts which attract bees … and it’s easy to clean. Sweet! What’s next.

Second, the bird bath: The one I bought is too small and didn’t correctly mount to the deck … and it’s hard to clean. So, after I get the hummingbird feeder, I’ll be ordering this guy – (click me). I think you’ll agree, it’s the rolls royce of deck mounted bird baths (not true actually, as it would need a heater and water jiggler thingy to be a rolls).

Lastly, a normal bird feeder: I don’t currently own a bird feeder that I really like. I have 2 at the moment, and I’ve owned as many as 5, but they stink. I need to do some more research on this and suggestions would be great. It needs to post mountable (I plan to attach it to our fence somehow) and super duper squirrel proof. And, in the spirit of cleanliness, I’ll only be filling it with hulled sunflower seed (no shell, no mess, fallen seeds won’t sprout). It’s expensive, but worth it in my opinion.

That’s about it I think. I also bought a suet feeder, but a squirrel ate almost the entire thing.
